A weary Eilish McColgan fought hard to claim bronze in the women’s 5,000m on a stormy night at the European Championships in Munich.
The evening’s events were delayed by thunder and lightning, but that didn’t stop an electric performance from local favorite Konstanze Klosterhalfen, who won her first senior gold medal.
Commonwealth 10,000m champion McColgan, who took silver in that event on Tuesday, held on to win her fourth major championship medal in a grueling summer.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Jake Heyward took an impressive silver in the men’s 1500m behind Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the race, McColgan said: ‘I was so tired.
‘I don’t know how I got to the finish line. I am very happy to come and win another medal.

‘Those two girls were so strong in the midsection. To win another medal, I have no words. I couldn’t do more.
‘I started this year with just one outdoor medal and now I’ve collected another four. he’s crazy
‘I can’t believe this is going to be a year I won’t forget for a long time.’
