Victor Weisanto caused a stir when he opened spring-summer 2023 womenswear at Paris Fashion Week. His collection featured nearly see-through jumpsuits and dresses.
The 28-year-old designer’s most daring outfit was created with braided hair and a piece of sheer fabric.
Other designs in Weinsanto’s SS23 collection include nearly sheer bodysuits, cut-out minidresses worn with towering capes, and even bodysuits that go over corsets.
Newly dressed with bright orange hair, the designer said people were looking for “creativity, freedom, craziness and humor” in their outfits right now.
The designer’s clothing was bold and extravagant, with some featuring a huge feathered hat, gigantic tulle and a large fuchsia pink and red heart and floral design.
Other ensembles in the collection were edgy, however, as the former ballet dancer-turned-fashion designer mixed near-sheer bodysuits, cut-out minidresses worn with towering capes, and even bodysuits that went over corsets.
The most scandalous thing on the catwalk was an outfit that consisted of several rows of braided hair on transparent fabric, which were knotted around the model’s body.
Like many of his generation, there is a focus on sustainability, with almost all of his designs made with surplus from other brands, and inclusivity.
There were more modest designs in the designer collection, which is a protégé of iconic fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
Weinsanto’s collection also featured quirks from a huge feathered hat to a model experimenting with gymnastics.
