The Dalai Lama said, “I prefer India to Taiwan.”

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, has said that he would prefer India over Taiwan. Speaking to Indian media on Wednesday after returning from a visit to Taiwan, Lama said he would prefer India over Taiwan to stay.

Speaking at a virtual press conference on his visit to Taiwan, he said, “I choose India to stay as the situation in China and Taiwan is very delicate.”

China has been claiming independent Taiwan as a territory. Taiwan has objected to repeated attacks by China on its air defenses. China’s actions have caused a rift between China and Taiwan.

According to Reuters, the Dalai Lama has no immediate plans to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Lama, a spiritual leader expelled from Tibet, has been living in refuge in India since 1959.

He has repeatedly called on China to protect Tibet’s independence, culture and religion from India.
