Spain’s first sex affairs minister appointed to fight declining birth rates

Madrid. Spain appoints first Minister of Sex Edelmira Bereira has been appointed the first Minister of Sex with an agenda to tackle the challenge of birth control in the country.

The government is confident that the birth rate will increase with the formation of this new ministry. Recently, Spain has become the country with the lowest birth rate in the world. Prime Minister Mariano Rojoyo has handed over the ministry to Bereira. The tenure of the newly appointed Minister Bereira will be focused on plans to have more children.

Spain has been struggling with a population crisis lately. Mortality was measured higher than birth last year.

Experts attribute some of the reasons for the recent decline in sexual desire in Spain. Like – working long hours. The culture of eating late at night and having trouble sleeping at midnight.

Spain’s birth rate has fallen by 18 percent since 2008. The number of childless couples increased from 1.5 million (1977) to 4.4 million (2015).

The average Spanish woman wants two or more children. However, in 2015, 1.3 percent of women in the 18-48 age group gave birth. However, the European Union set the figure at 1.58 percent.

According to a Spanish family watchdog, the economic crisis has forced Spanish women to have children later in life.

Spain’s education ministry says the drop in birth rates will increase economic inequality and affect the welfare state. Minister Beroeira’s challenge now is to formulate a national strategy to combat population imbalances.
