Most years the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip lineup doesn’t see much competition, but in 2022 that all changed as the Motorola Razr 2022 became a serious rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
This wasn’t Motorola’s first foldable foldable, but it was the company’s first really great one, and it left us with high hopes for the Motorola Razr 2023.
We’re already hearing quite a bit about this upcoming phone, so below you’ll find all the leaks and rumors we’ve heard so far, and we’ll add it to this article once we hear more.
Below you’ll also find a list of things we want from the Motorola Razr 2023, to make it an even better foldable phone than the Razr 2022.
Come to the point
What is it? Motorola’s next foldable phone
When does it come out? Probably around August 2023
How much will it cost? Possibly around £949.99 / AU$1,599 (about $1,155) Motorola Razr 2023: release date and price
We’ll probably be waiting a while for the Motorola Razr 2023, as the Razr 2022 only landed in August 2022, so August 2023 is the most likely release month for the next model.
Motorola hasn’t stuck with August every year, but these phones are always announced at least towards the end of the year, so if anything, August is probably the earliest we’ll see it.
There’s also the question of which countries it will be available in, because while the 2022 model is available in the UK and Australia, it can’t currently be bought in the US, although earlier models have launched there.
There are no pricing rumors yet, but the Motorola Razr 2022 starts at £949.99 / AU$1,599 (around $1,155), so a similar price for the upcoming model is entirely possible.
The 2022 Razr marked the best balance of price and performance Motorola’s foldable series had achieved to date and ultimately made them cost competitive against Samsung’s Galaxy Flip equivalent. It would be great if prices continued to fall, of course, but that seems like a step too far.

There aren’t many Motorola Razr 2023 leaks so far, but we’ve heard a thing or two, including a claim coming from
evan blass (opens in a new tab) – a reputable leaker – who tweeted that there will be two new Razr models in 2023. These will apparently be codenamed Juno and Venus, but no additional details were provided.
Of those, the Juno is likely to be the successor to the 2022 Razr, because an earlier leak on 91Mobiles
(opens in a new tab) said the successor to the Motorola Razr 2022 was codenamed Juno and would again have a 144Hz display.

So what about Venus? There is no news about that. The source above actually mentioned another phone codenamed Felix as well, which is apparently the company’s first rollable phone, but it’s probably further along.
Venus could be another phone in the mold of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but that’s just speculation for now.
Evan recently came back with an apparent rendering of the upcoming phone showing a Razr with a much larger cover screen. In the new design, the cover screen wraps around the camera lenses and takes up much more of the front face when closed. We love to see a more useful external display, so here’s hoping this rumor pans out.
what we want to see
There are a number of things we’d like Motorola to work on with the next Razr model, and the following five top our list.
1. Better cameras
The 2022 Razr has reasonable but not great cameras (Image credit: Future/Alex Walker-Todd)
The Motorola Razr 2022 has significantly better cameras than previous models, but there’s still room for improvement on the Razr 2023.
We want to see post-processing improvements, a better ultra-wide camera as the 2022 Razr disappoints, and ideally even the addition of a telephoto lens; though that last might be too much to hope for.
2. Long-term upgrade support
Motorola only promises two years of Android version updates and three years of security patches with the Razr 2022, which isn’t enough, especially for such an expensive phone, especially considering that Samsung and OnePlus are offering four years. of Android Updates and five years of security patches with select phones.
So we want Motorola to commit to much longer software support with the 2023 Razr; otherwise it might be hard to recommend.
3. Water resistance
The Motorola Razr 2022 doesn’t have much water resistance (Image credit: Future/Alex Walker-Todd)
It sounds like it would be hard to make a foldable phone waterproof, but somehow Samsung has managed it with recent phones, so we’d like to see Motorola do the same with the next Razr.
Technically, you do get something in the 2022 Razr, but its IP52 rating falls well short of what Samsung offers.
Decent water resistance is a standard feature on premium phones and for good reason, as the last thing you want is for a bit of rain to turn your purchase into an expensive paperweight.
4. Wireless charging
While the Motorola Razr 2022 has reasonable battery life and charges fairly quickly, it only supports wired charging, which is a shame for such an expensive phone, especially since its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, offers wireless charging. For this reason, we would like the Motorola Razr 2023 to offer it as well.
5. Smoother performance
There’s no shortage of power in the Motorola Razr 2022, however in our review we found that actual performance wasn’t always great, with some noticeable skips and stutters at times.
Given the hardware and price, that’s not really acceptable, so we’d like to see the 2023 Razr optimized for smooth performance, as that will help it rank among the best foldable phones.
