A pinched nerve occurs when “surrounding tissues, such as bone, cartilage, muscle, or tendon, apply too much pressure to a nerve,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
This pressure can cause severe pain, along with tingling, numbness, and/or general weakness.
Although rest is the most common way to heal a pinched nerve, more severe cases may require surgery to relieve pain.
