Gerard Aston appointed coach of Villa

Premier League club Aston Villa have appointed Steven Gerrard as their head coach.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard, who has been the coach of Scottish Club Rangers for three years, was appointed by Aston Villa on Thursday.

Gerrard, 41, gave the Rangers their first title in 10 years last season. Gerard will now replace Dean Smith, who was sacked on Sunday at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League and just two points above the relegation zone.

Gerrard, who returned to the Premier League as a coach, said Aston Villa had a good history in English football and was proud to be its coach.
