Dhaka. Former Bangladesh Chief Justice sentenced to 11 years in prison Opposition parties and their supporters have accused the decision of being politically motivated.

A court in the capital Dhaka has passed such a verdict against 70-year-old former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha. According to the court, he embezzled 471,000 US dollars from a private bank.

In 2017, he ruled that parliament could not dismiss a judge. The decision was hailed by legal practitioners as protecting the court.

He was forced to resign following the ruling. He then left the country and began living as an immigrant in the United States. Campaigners say the ruling raises questions about the court’s credibility.
