Prominent football agent Saif Rubie has been charged with the crime of making a malicious communication after police investigated claims that former Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia had been blackmailed.

On September 19, the officer is understood to have been arrested in connection with the allegation, but after police investigations, Rubie was charged with a misdemeanor.

The agent is due in Westminster Magistrates Court on November 23.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into an email addressed to Granovskaia, who has now left her post at Stamford Bridge, which said she had received demands for payment of reportedly £300,000 for a transfer involving to Chelsea.

Earlier this month, police confirmed that officers from the Met’s MO6 Public Order Crime Team were investigating.

But police confirmed today that the agent has now been charged with malicious communications.

A confirmed police statement read: ‘Saif Al Rubie, 44, of Stevenage Road, Hammersmith, has been charged with malicious communications.

He has been released on bail to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 23 November.
