Dems LOSE ground over Republicans and Biden's approval drops five points with 40 days until midterms

Democrats LOSE ground to Republicans again as Biden’s approval slips five points with just 40 days until the midterms: New poll shows bipartisan race is on a knife edge

  • Democrats have just a 2% preference over Republicans in the 2022 midterms
  • A slip from his 5% lead in the Politico/Morning Consult poll earlier this month
  • Joe Biden also fell 5% in approval with just 40 days to go before the election.

Forty-five percent of registered voters surveyed told Politico/Morning Consult they would vote Democrat in the 2022 midterms compared with 43 percent who said they would vote Republican, up 2 percent from last week.

The small gap between the parties falls just within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

The remaining 12 percent of those surveyed say they don’t know or have no opinion about which party is victorious in November.

Biden’s approval is also shown to be falling among registered voters with only 40 days left until Election Day.

The week of Sept. 18, the president garnered 46 percent overall approval compared to his drop from 5 percent to 41 percent in the most recent poll this week.

Among Democrats alone, approval dropped from 85 percent last week to 80 percent now.

The left also lost some lead on its generic midterm ticket, going from a 5 percent margin against Republicans to just 2 percent.

Americans are generally dissatisfied with the direction the country is headed.

Only 21 percent said in the September Gallup poll that they are satisfied, which is still an improvement over August, when just 17 percent felt the same way, and July, when just 13 percent were happy with the direction. from the country.

The July survey came after a 40-year high inflation rate hit 9.1 percent in June. Americans consistently rate the economy, including inflation, gas prices and jobs, as their top priority as they head to the polls.

While early predictions showed a Republican bloodbath in this year’s midterm elections, more recent polls and expert estimates show the margin of victory shrinking as the countdown to Election Day progresses. .

Republicans are still expected to take the House, with a recent CBS News model estimate showing the lower house turning red with a gap of 223-212, a majority of just 11 seats.

It’s unclear what movement there will be in the Senate, which is currently split 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris holding the tiebreaking vote and pushing the party to the smallest possible majority.

Some worry that former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of more radical candidates “out there” could spell doom for the GOP in the 2022 midterm elections.

One example is television doctor Mehmet Oz, who is running for Republican Senator Pat Toomey’s seat in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. Trump supported Dr. Oz in the primary, and it is now unclear whether he will have enough statewide and moderate support to win the seat.
