Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Meeting Begins: Party General Secretary Xi will also be the third term president

Beijing. The 19th Central Committee Meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has started today. Party General Secretary Xi Jinping presented the progress report on behalf of the Political Bureau under the Central Committee.

He described the achievements of the Chinese Communist Party over the centuries. The meeting, which is also the sixth extended conference, will end on Thursday, according to the Global Times.

The meeting will decide whether to continue Jinping as president for a third term. The report, based on the party’s major achievements and historical experience, is expected to pass.

This is the third time such a resolution has been passed since the party was formed in 1921. The first resolution was submitted by Mao Zedong in 1945 and the second by Deng Xiaoping in 1981.

More than 300 members of the Central Committee have participated in the meeting which started today. According to Chinese media, since taking office in 2012, President Jinping has set two main goals.

First, to make China prosperous on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Communist Party in 2021, and second, to make China a sophisticated communist society by 2049.

According to Chinese media, the meeting will make party general secretary Xi more powerful.
