American journalist Fenster sentenced to 11 years in prison in Myanmar

Yangon A military court in Myanmar has sentenced American journalist Danny Fenster to 11 years in prison. The court’s decision comes as US efforts to secure his release are under pressure. The 37-year-old journalist was the editor of Fenster online magazine Frontier Myanmar.

He was convicted of violating immigration laws there. Her magazine described the verdict against its editor as a blow to the law.

He is the first Western journalist to be jailed in Myanmar in recent years. On February 1, the army overthrew the popularly elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi and formed a government under its leadership.

Journalist Fenster was arrested last May while trying to leave Myanmar. He is currently being held in a Myanmar prison. His journalists have been demanding his release.
