Ajla Tomljanovic fell to No.5 seed Ons Jabeur in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon, losing 4-6, 6-7 after a gutsy victory against Serena Williams in the third round.

Jabeur has earned a trip to the Open semifinals for the first time in his career.

Tomljanovic led 5-3 in the second set but was unable to close out the match as Tunisia’s Jabeur eventually forced a tie break where she won 7-4.

Ons Jabeur had never made it past the third round of the US Open before this year.

The Aussie also committed nine double faults in the match, also breaking five times.

The quarter-final run was an improvement on her open third-round run from last year, and she also reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in early 2022.

But the loss is a disappointing outing for Tomljanovic after she defeated Serena Williams 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.

With the Open touted as the final tournament of Williams’ career, the 23-time Grand Slam winner enjoyed overwhelming home support over Tomljanovic (and her two other opponents).

However, the Australian took the victory in a comfortable third set.

Jabeur will play next with a trip to the final on the line on Thursday.
